PROFILE: FARID SWAPS CP130 FOR CP115

After three unfruitful rounds in the CP130 category, Mohd Farid Ahmad makes a switch to participate in the CP115 category in Round 4 of the 2011 PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship schedule to kick off at Precinct 3, Putrajaya this 28 to 29 May onwards.

So far, Farid's best performance was during the opening leg at Kangar, Perlis coming in 10th picking up 6 points. Unfortunately, from there everything went downhill for the 23- year old following a did not finish (DNF) in Batu Kawan (Round 2) and did not start (DNS) in Kuala Terengganu (Round 3).

With that, he is currently placed 17th overall with only 6 points while his teammates, Elly Idzlianizar Ilias is currently 13th overall in the standings with 20 points while Elly Idzliaikmal Ilias ranks in 15th position with 8 points.

The Global Bike Rock Oil Racing rider explained the move was necessary as he is not performing well in the premier category and that the team is struggling very hard in search of the right set-up.

"Shifting to the CP115 was a joint decision between me and team manager, Mohd Nazri A. Salam because we discovered I perform the least in the CP130 compared to Elly Idzlianizar and Elly Idzliaikmal. Besides that, with me moving to CP115 it will not affect the Team Award as both Elly Idzlianizar and Elly Idzliaikmal has been selected for the Team Award category."

In addition to that, Farid believes swapping classes now is timely seeing that the Championship is still in its early stages and it will give the team an opportunity to understand the Yamaha machine better.

"Part of the issue lies in the machine setting where is not competitive enough in comparison to my teammates. Hence we decided to join the CP115 and try our luck there. The technical regulations are different for this class and hopefully by readjusting our goals we can see a better outcome," said Farid.

Talking about his targets moving to the intermediate category, Farid added, "Ideally, a top three finish would be great. But seeing that this is my first race in the CP115 for this season, finishing among top five would be satisfactory. Nevertheless, I will still try my best," he said.

Abdul Muhaimin Roslan (Yamaha Maju Motor Racing) currently leads the CP130 standings with 44 points followed by Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi (Pachie Yuzy Honda Racing) 37 points and two-timed Expert Champion, Ahmad Fazli Sham (Pennzoil Fastrac Racing) comes in third, 36 points.
