KUALA LUMPUR: Fourteen-year-old Mohd Ramdan Mohd Rosli (pic) is all geared up to mark his debut in the CP115 category with a podium finish and be crowned as champion in the season-ending Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix at Padang Kota Lama in Penang this weekend.
Despite leading the overall standings by a comfortable 22 points, the Petronas Sprinta Yamaha AHM rider has no intention of taking it easy this weekend.
Ramdan, who has 162 points, can only be caught by second-placed Motul Yamaha YY Pang’s Mohd Rozaiman Mohd Said (140pts).
Motul Yamaha YY Pang’s Mohd Adli Salihin and Petronas Sprinta Ya maha Raceline’s Mohd Iskandar Raduan, both tied on third with 118 points, are out of the running for the crown.
Ramdan does not want to just go through the motion and earn sufficient points to win the title, he wants to clinch the crown in style – with a podium finish.
“Although all I need to win the title is to finish the race in 12th placing, I want to add another victory to my collection,” said Ramdan, who only began his racing last year.
“A victory in Penang will go well with my title and the best team award that Petronas Sprinta Yamaha AHM Racing had secured in Sepang two weeks ago.
“But we’ll see how it goes this weekend. At worst, I expect nothing less than a top five finish.”
So far, Ramdan has chalked up three wins, finished second twice and ended up third once. His worst outing was in Kuala Terengganu (Round 5) where he finished seventh.
